I really enjoyed this book. It is well written, the story moves at a good and believable pace, the characters are interesting and likable, the love scenes are spicy and there are no big misunderstandings or love triangles.Ewan is a wonderful hero, he knows what he wants and is determined to get it. And what he wants right now is Grace. I loved that he was patient with her and that he realized his love and was not afraid to show it. Grace was also a great heroine, she is loyal, smart, loving and kind.
I think the story started great, got a bit sickly sweet in the middle and finished up very well.
There is some modern verbiage used - if that kind of thing bothers you - you have been warned. I don't think it really distracted from the overall feel of the book.
This is the second book in a series, I didn't read the first one, but in no way felt lost or confused with this installment. There are a few references to events from the first book - but they are very minor and don't really tie into this book directly. So it did not diminish my enjoyment of this story.

Bride of a Scottish Warrior Adrienne Basso 9781420129045 Books Reviews
There were point of this story that were really well written, but other points didn't make sense. Characters did things that seemingly went against their natures. It seemed to rush and slow throughout the book which also gave me problems. It's like the author knew they wanted point a to lead to point b, but had no idea how to he there so she just threw something together that didn't really work. If it weren't for the well written portions I wouldn't have finished the book.
This book is a wonderful read. Well thought out characters and a sometimes surprising story. I loved it and would suggest anyone who loves historical Scottish stories to read it. Robert the Bruce, clans fighting and some people thinking more of themselves than they should. Go for it.
Ewan and Grace drew me immediately and then their story kept getting better. Lust, love, and levity work well together. Throw in some physical conflict between competing characters in the time period, dubious relatives, a few superstitions and a few loyal friend with a heap of family love and you have a good book. This book is a joy for those who like Scottish tales.
and this is very good. The best thing happened * we moved to another state and found 2 used bookstores not far away; the one we went to had 4 Adrienne Basso books I haven't seen before. Treasure trove! I usu. fill in the series etc with s.
What an absolutely enjoyable story. I am always such a sucker for a great highland warrior story and Ewan sure fit the bill. He is on a quest to find a bride but because of his bastard status he's finding it more difficult. He comes upon the clan of his friend and finds that Grace is a widow and available for marriage. Only Grace has other plans. They both have things to overcome but Ewan refuses to give up and pursues Grace until circumstances make it impossible for her to say no. The story was interesting and had the typical dangers involved with the time but also added was the things that happened to Grace with her old clan still following her. Just a very enjoyable read. Highly recommend.
I am an avid Highland and Regency reader and Adrienne is one of my favorite author's, This author draws you into the story so fast, that you don't want to stop reading. I felt such an immediate connection to both our H/h. There are so many intriguing moments, that you will be amazed. There is lovemaking that will have you curling your toes. Now, don't get me wrong, it is not vulgar, nor erotic type. But, just so full of passion that your heart will beat faster because it is so well written. The secondary character's are so richly written, that it just add another layer to this story. Other's have discussed the premise of this story, so I didn't explain it. Do yourself a favor and sign up for her newsletter, and not miss any of her novels. Another thing I love about the way Ms Basso writes, if there is a lack of communication, it doesn't go on for the whole book, it is resolved quickly. (ljb)
It was a good book. I would give it 4.5 stars. Ewan and Grace made a great couple. However with that said this book did not grab me as much as "How to Be a Scottish Mistress". There was just something special about Gavin in that book. Even though Ewan is still great. This is her usual style, a sweet type of romance with no arguing, and everybody is sure from when they agree to be with the other person that they are falling in love with them. I didn't feel there was that much excitement in this book. The villain seemed to just appear twice for a really short time, just to cause issues. I almost gave it 4 stars because of the lack of excitement, but thought the book was still good so gave it the 4.5. I would have like somewhere in the book for Ewan and Gavin to put their differences aside, but she never really mentions Gavin. Probably because Ewan mother would have too big of a fit and probably try to kill Gavin.
Sex content medium. A couple of scenes somewhat descriptive, but not too much.
Even though she does not list this as a series this is book 2. First book is "How to Be a Scottish Mistress". Each book could be read on it's own.
