The Book of Occult Simon W Clark 9781939383655 Books

I really enjoyed the smooth writing style of Simon W. Clark in his book "The Book of Occult". I found it to be well written with plenty of fast-paced twists and turns to keep you interested. The story unfolds in a natural way and isn't rushed but at the same time the reader doesn't get bored either. As I said; "well written." Simon did a great job of pulling at the readers emotions and mixing the two main characters story lines until a climatic end.

I found this book to be great fantasy and mystery reading with a nice blend of occultism, historical fiction, science fiction with present day technology. Wow, what a mix! Anyway, it reminded me of The Da Vinci Code with the characters traveling all over trying to unravel the mysteries of the ancient occult. I love to travel too so that helped draw me into the story-line. The occultism seemed well researched and believable. Although I'm no expert, I didn't catch myself going "yea right??" over and over again as I read.

I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a great mystery with their occultism, mixed with just the right amount of geek to keep things interesting. Simon has done a great job in this book with well crafted plots and sub-plots and even some romance that was tastefully and appropriately worked into the story-line. I look forward to reading more of this quality of work from this author. Very well written. I have no problem giving this book 5 stars!

The Book of Occult Simon W Clark 9781939383655 Books Reviews

I expected this book to be creepy, but what I didn't expect was the attention to detail, excellent storytelling, and a multilayer story line. Peter has been searching for the author of this strange book of spells that caused the death of his friend as a child. This quest will bring danger, intrigue, and more than he'd bargained for. All of the characters are well developed, as is the plot, and the many locations the characters travel to. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more from this author!
The first thing that drew me to this book was the amazing cover. Second thing, I love books that take the reader around the world. I love traveling vicariously though books.

My only reservation was I had no knowledge about anything occult.
In the end, it was really enlightening to learn the history of something I never knew existed!

Following Peter while he tried to track down the author of an ancient spell book has been the highlight of the past few days. I think anyone who is an avid reader would love this book, even if it isn't their normal genre.
I’m a big fan of fictional mysteries and thrillers that use unusual elements of the real world. Elements of the occult are difficult to mix into a good storyline without going over the top and entering the realm of utterly unrealistic or supernatural. Too many novelists today write for an audience that wants a quick and entertaining read without too many oddities or “taboo” elements. When I saw “The Book of Occult” I skimmed through some of the reviews, noticed it was more than 300 pages, and decided to give it a shot. I’m glad I did.

I was expecting a singular story line with a nice plot, maybe a few twists here or there, and then a decent ending. That’s what we all expect from a good book, right? This is where this author did things differently. He combined multiple storylines and was able to successfully keep each of them intact. The creepy parts were genuinely creepy; the geeky parts, genuinely geeky. The relationships were believable, and it was an all-around rewarding read.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys television shows such as True Detective, Constantine, and Believe. I love those shows, and this book truly reminds me of some of their storylines. If you’re looking for a good fictional read, but you know nothing about the occult, this book is also a good educational experience. It will really make you think about things that are outside the ordinary.
Simon W. Clark did a great job here at blending historical facts with literary fiction. The premise of the book was good and the execution was flawless. Clark did a masterful job of setting the reader up for the story right from the beginning. I always love it when it author starts out strong right from the beginning as it keeps a reader hooked and anxious to see what is coming. If the first two chapters are weak then I get bored and quite frankly I don't finish the read. Clark did a great job of keeping the plot tight and built in intensity as he went. I loved the small nuances of foreign languages that added a bit of spice and uniqueness to this story. The characters are strong and relateable (Bonnet was my favorite). I built an emotional connection right away as the author gave us a lot, but held back at times to build suspense into the plot.

This book is well-written, engaging, and will entertain you with a thrill-ride of intensity, twists, and the feeling of "what's next?"

I would recommend this book to anybody that loves a good fantasy or occult book. If you are not familiar with the genre - this is a good book to start with. Grab a coffee or glass of wine, then sit back and enjoy this long (59 chapters), but enjoyable book! Two thumbs up!
"The Book of Occult" is a wonderfully imaginative and well-written novel that delves into the world of the occult in a fantastic way. Using a vivid writing style and authentic characters to tell this tale, Simon W. Clark pulls you into the story and makes you eager to unravel the mystery of the manuscript and the hidden workings of the world Peter Ashton has found himself thrust into. It's fast-paced, sharp, focused and exceedingly entertaining. What I liked about this novel was that the author didn't just fake his way through the more esoteric portions of the occult, he did his research and created an authentic world were magic and the occult come together nicely. I had a great time reading this and I think it was a promising introduction to Mr. Clark as an author. "The Book of Occult" was well worth the read and I would certainly recommend it to other readers looking for a fast-paced, well-written and enjoyable novel to sink their teeth into.
